Stefano A. Cerrato is Full Professor of Commercial Law at the University of Turin and founder and director of the Interdepartmental Research Centre on Enterprise, Over-Indebtedness and Insolvency (C.R.I.S.I. Centre).
Admitted to the Bar in 2003 and qualified to plead before the Italian Supreme Court since 2009, he serves on the boards, editorial committees and scientific boards of leading Italian legal journals. He is also co-founder and co-editor of Giurisprudenza arbitrale, an ANVUR Class A scientific journal.
His main areas of expertise include corporate law, arbitration, digitalisation and new technologies (cryptocurrencies, smart contracts, artificial intelligence), corporate governance and sustainability, transport law, and the protection of geographical indications and “made in” designations in the food and wine sectors.
Since 2022, he has been a member and coordinator of the Teaching Commission of the inter-university research centre Scienza Nuova “Umberto Eco”, which promotes research and knowledge-sharing on interdisciplinary topics, with a particular focus on the relationship between digital technologies and the humanities.
He previously served on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Anti-Financial Crime Digital Hub (established by Intesa Sanpaolo, Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center, the University of Turin, the Polytechnic University of Turin and CENTAI). From 2014 to 2018, he was also listed among the highly specialised experts of the Italian Transport Regulation Authority.
Since March 2025, he has been a member of the Arbitration Council of the Arbitration Chamber at ANAC. He is also a member of the technical-scientific committee of the Steering Group for the Capital Markets established by the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance (Ministerial Decree of 24 October 2025).
He serves as an independent director of Fabrick S.p.A. (Sella Group), an Open Finance company providing innovative service ecosystems and technological platforms to foster collaboration and innovation between banks, fintech companies and businesses.
Since 2006, he has held teaching positions in several courses, including Law of the Digital Economy, Legal Protection of Business, and Law of the Digital Enterprise.
He is the author of nearly 300 scientific publications and has spoken at more than 150 academic conferences, seminars and professional training courses.
In 2013, he was awarded the honour of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic by the President of the Republic for his scientific achievements.
